Susan Silbermann

Global President, Pfizer Biopharmaceuticals Group Emerging Markets

Susan Silbermann is the Global President for Emerging Markets in Pfizer’s Biopharmaceuticals Group. In this role, she manages Pfizer’s broad pharmaceuticals portfolio and leads more than 10,000 colleagues across China, Latin America, emerging Asia, Africa, and the Middle East who are focused on improving the health and well-being of the more than 5.7 billion people living in these regions. Under her leadership, the Emerging Markets business is innovating to partner with governments, non-governmental organizations, patients, and others to increase appropriate access to Pfizer’s portfolio in core therapeutic areas including vaccines, medicines for oncology, inflammation and immunology, internal medicine, and rare disease as well as anti-infectives and sterile injectables used both in and outside of the hospital setting. The business is also developing programs and partnerships with alliances, like Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and UNICEF, which are improving health and quality of life in the poorest, underserved populations.

Throughout 2020, Susan has also served as the lead to Pfizer’s COVID-19 response, spearheading the company’s efforts to ensure the health and safety of more than 90,000 colleagues, maintain support for patients worldwide, provide support for highly impacted communities and, pursuing solutions to treat and halt the spread of this disease.

Prior to her role in Emerging Markets, Susan was the Global President of Pfizer Vaccines responsible for the operational management and commercial development of vaccines that protect people across all stages of life and address unmet needs for serious and life-threatening conditions. Susan has worked as an advocate around the world to promote the value of vaccination, including serving as a member of the Board of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance as a representative of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) from 2017 to 2020.

Throughout her 30-year career at Pfizer, Susan has held numerous leadership positions in Marketing, Commercial Development, and General Management in the U.S. and international markets.

Susan currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa and, in addition to Gavi, has served on numerous boards for nonprofit organizations, from supporting greater global health initiatives to serving on the board of advisors for Catalyst Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes inclusive workplaces for women around the world.

Susan has bachelor’s degrees in biology and French from Tufts University and a joint M.B.A./M.A. degree in international business and French studies from the Stern Graduate School of Business and the Institute of French Studies at New York University.
